Gainesville Journey

This weekend I journeyed to the forbidden. I went down to “The Swamp” with one of my best friends to stay for the game. I was staying in my friend’s boyfriend’s apartment and sleeping on the couch (that is what you call a fan). The week started out smoothly with Thanksgiving and all and then came Friday. I was scheduled at work on Friday at 7:00am for the biggest shopping day of the year. I didn’t leave the cash register until 2:00 that afternoon, but that wasn’t the problem.

My alarm clock had somehow gotten set an hour earlier than it really was so when I had it set to wake me up at 5:45am it really woke me up at 4:45am. Dressed and ready I walked out into the kitchen to grab breakfast and the microwave said 5:18am. I almost dropped over on the floor. I couldn’t fall asleep so I was awake until I left my house. After work I picked up everyone who was riding with me and headed down to Gainesville. The drive was good and there was barely any traffic so we made good time.

Once we got down there we hung out with a lot of the people form my high school that had graduated the year ahead of me and they had a big party at their house. But that isn’t what we had gone down there for. We went to bed and woke up bright and early to start tailgating.

A lot of my Kappa Delta Alumnae were down there so I went to their tailgate FOR SOME PRE-GAME SNACKS. Looking around you knew you were in Gainesville. The Gator Fans are so hard core that they paint themselves and wear all sorts of crazy stuff I knew I was in for some surprises.

When the game started it was a mad house, people were yelling at each other and pushing to get to their seats. This had to be the most fun football game I have ever been to. Once I got to my seats we were winning and had the ball. Then they were winning then we were winning the stadium was erupting with excitement every two minutes. Finally, the victory was ours and the fans were pissed. All of the FSU fans were doing the chop and singing “It sucks to be a FLORIDA GATOR!” I have never seen anything like it in my life.

At 32 degrees outside it was starting to get chilly, but we had gotten lost! My friend and I walked around the streets in the dark for two hours and no one could find us. See what happened was all the streets had been turned into one way because of the game so my friends that were driving around couldn’t get to where we were. Two hours later with frost bite they found us.

Sunday the drive was long and saw a lot of accidents but all in all this was one of the most fun weekends that I have ever had. All I have to say is “It sucks to be a FLORIDA GATOR!”
