“I told you something was different Jamie. Look nobody is here. There are no cars around, nobody is walking outside, we are standing in complete silence. What the hell is wrong with our neighborhood? What the hell is going on? We have checked my house, your house, your mom’s friend house, and Christina’s house. This is really fucking weird.”
“Stop it John, you are freaking me out. We will just go to the gas station and I am sure one of us will get a hold of our parents.”
Jamie was thinking that it would be that easy. She had no idea what she was about to stumble upon.
John and Jamie had been friends for several years. They had always walked home after school together. Both of them would meet up at the parking lot and head home from there. Today had been like any other ordinary day. They were let out of their classes, met up with each other and were ready to walk home.
John looked over to Jamie and said, “heeeey what’s up girl? You don’t even know about these bomb ass brownies my mom is making for me today. I can’t wait until we get home.”
“John, how many times have I been to your house for some brownies, honestly.”
“So what. That doesn’t mean you know about these bomb ass brownies that my mom is going to have today.”
“Hey lets start walking home. I don’t feel like hanging around at school anymore.”
“Jamie, do you want to come over when we get back to the neighborhood? We will get down on the some good shit yo.”
“That sounds cool,” she said.
As they got back to their neighborhood, something appeared to be different and out of place to John. He wasn’t really quite sure what it was but something was wrong for some reason. He turned to Jamie and asked her if she thought anything was up or if it seemed like it.
“Not really. She replied.
“Well something is wrong and I can feel it. I just don’t know what it is exactly.”
They walked up to his front doorstep and rang on the doorbell. Nobody came to answer it.
“Damn what the hell? My mom said she would be home when I got back from school today. I wonder where she is. This is strange of her. She never does stuff like this.”
He rang the doorbell again but just like before nobody came to open it.
“Hey nobody is home at my house and I got the key John, lets just go over there.”
“Alright as long as I can get some play.”
“Ohhh yeah ok. You can be such an asshole sometimes John.
“I was just messing around damn chill out.” Well lets go to your place then. This really sucks though because I wanted some damn brownies.”
“John stop complaining. I probably have some food at my house that you can have.”
“Hey let me just get my key out of my backpack and we will get the baby some food.”
“Fuck all that. I was just saying I wanted some damn brownies.”
“Damn. Now something is wrong with my key. I can’t unlock my door from some reason.”
“Hey are you sure that you are putting the key in the right way.
“Of course I am sure. How would I not know how to put in my own keys? My parents wouldn’t change the lock without telling me. I don’t know what the hell is going on.”
They then went right across the street to see if her mom’s friend was home. Nothing, nobody.
“Oh I know who would be home right now John.”
“Who?” John asked.
“Christina should be there. It wouldn’t take her that long to get home after school.”
“Yeah, your right. Come on.”
The same thing happened when they arrived to Christina’s door. They couldn’t get anyone to answer it. This is when it hit John. Something was wrong with his neighborhood. Nobody was outside but the two of them. There was nothing going on around them but silence. The only activity that was going on at their street was the two of going door to door. There were no cars outside. Nobody was walking around. Not even the occasional cry of a little kid that was playing outside was to be heard. John knew something weird was going on.
Jamie then came up with the idea of going to a gas station so that they could get a hold of one of their parents.
As they were walking to the gas station, they approached a four-way stop. John knew that something was different about it but couldn’t figure out what it was. They walked through the stop and that is when the scariest thing that has ever happened to the both of them occurred. They saw John’s house again.
“Is that your house right there John? How could that be possible? What the hell is going on. That can’t be your house! I am really bugged out now. How can that be your house?”
“I am not sure what is going on Jamie. I am just as lost as you are. That can’t be my house, but it is.”
Jamie told John that they should just turn around and head back to their school. John liked the idea and they headed towards that direction. As they passed John’s house they came up to the end of the street. Usually it would lead them on a path back to their school, but this time it just brought them back to the same street where they could see his house again. This really freaked them out. John picked up a rock from off of the ground and threw it at his window. The rock just bounced off of it as if the window were made out of plastic. John had never seen anything like this before. Jamie was screaming and was bugging out. She didn’t know what to do. She kept asking John if he knew what the hell was going on. She grabbed him and started shaking him. Jamie grabbed his shoulders and just kept shaking him and shaking him.
“Seniors.” The assistant principal to Lazy Creek High had announced the early release of the upperclassmen over the intercom. John woke up and didn’t know where he was at. It took him awhile to figure it out since he had dozed off pretty hard. Then he came to his senses and realized that he was having a bad dream.
“Oh shit! I thought we were already released,” John screamed out, interrupting his class. Everyone gave him a creepy look. He looked over to one of his friends and said, “Bro I will explain it to you later.” All he wanted to do was go meet up with Jamie and tell her about the freaky dream.
