I had the best of intentions of making it home on time for the Thanksgiving hoilday. After all, I have a lot to be thankful for. Never did I think for one second that I wouldnt be making it home for the Turkey.
It started off great. We packed our bags, loaded the car, put a full tank of gas in, and were off on our 7 hour car ride home. There was a little traffic cramping the roads, but nothing serious. We were making excellent time, and were almost to Gainsville when something went extremely wrong.
I was sleeping in the back when all of a sudden a strong burning smell hit my nose.It was so strong that it woke me up out of a deep sleep. I looked to the driver and asked what was wrong but he said nothing. We pulled over to the side of the road and saw nothing but steam rising from the front of the car. What was wrong?
In the distance we could see a rest stop full of people and decided to leave the car and find someone to help us figure out what was wrong. We walked for about 15 mins and finally arrived to the rest area. We saw auto mechanics and told them what had happened to the car and then drove came with back with us to our car.
They looked around for a few mins and then came up with the answer. "You wont be able to drive home in this kids." "And theres no one that can fix the car until tomm morning". What were we going to do?
After making several frantic phone calls to everyone we knew, we decided to call someone to come pick us up and drive us the rest of the way home. So, my friend called his parents and they of course agreed to pick us all up and bring us home.
Seeing the Gainsville is about 5 hours away from Plantation, we had no choice but to wait at the rest stop for that long and just relax. I never knew how long 5 hours really was until I sat down doing nothing and just waited.
Finally we received the phone call we had all been waiting for. His parents were here and at last we would be able to go home. By the time I reached my house, it was about 11 at night and dinner was obviously over. I stood outside of my house thinking that all my family had already gone home, and that this Thanksgiving was over. But then a rush of people ran to the door and all have me hugs and kisses. My entire family had waited for my arrival. They had even made me a plate full of my favorite food for me to eat! I guess the saying is right...."its better late then never"!
Thanksgiving Nightmare!!!!!
