Gobble gobble!

Thanksgiving break serves as the beginning of the official countdowns towards Winter break. Students across the nation head back to their hometowns to celebrate Turkey Day with their loved ones. The end of this holiday means that upon their return to school there are only a couple more weeks of school until the end of the semester.

My semester in college marked the first time I was away from my parents for such an extended period of time. My return home felt uncomfortable at first. It seems to me that my parents don’t realize the degree of freedom that I have when I am in school. I think that because ever since I’ve been home they have been trying to boss me around as if I still lived with them. It feels weird because I don’t want to be rude and say “You can’t tell me when to come home” but at the same time I still have to respect them, I mean, I am at THEIR house.

Another weird aspect of being home is seeing the kids from my high school. I attended a high school along with other 4300 students. When I went out Friday night I went to Riverfront, a place in downtown Ft. Lauderdale –a good 20 minutes away from my town. Once I got there with two of my closest friends from high school, one who attends UCF and the other who goes to FSU, we bumped into 7 girls from our high school in the bathroom. We proceeded and made our way up to the bars, it looked like our cafeteria! I joked around and said that we might as well have class again! Graduates from the class of 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and current students from Douglas were agglomerating on the terrace. I hated it!

After being fake for a good hour (“Hey! Oh my gosh! What have you been up to? How is school? Are you still with…?” ) I got tired and left, cutting my night short –I didn’t feel like clubbing with those people.

I did learn something though for next time I come home: have my own parties! This way I see only those whom I want! Eye-wink
