Journal 10 - With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility

When I first heard this quote I was only a junior in high school. I remember well sitting on the front row of my Advanced Placement United States History class while Mrs. Hitchcock prepared us for our exam. However I cannot tell you who said it. It’s sad, I know. I even looked it up online but the pages brought up on yahoo.com and google.com do not mention the author of the quote. I am sorry for not being able to provide the author of a quote that has caused great impact in my life.

Ever since I was little, my teachers and peers have regarded me as a leader. Sometimes the other kids would call me bossy. As I grew the same kids relied on me to get our group projects done. That’s just the kind of person I am. Throughout my high school career I took pride in the positions I held in various clubs and organizations. A couple of weeks ago I was voted my pledge class’s representative for the Standards Board in my sorority.

The Standards Board meets when a sister consistently breaks any rule of the house. Thankfully we have not yet met. I am very grateful that my pledge class trusted me with this position. It means a great deal to me that even people who have met me only three months ago have recognized my leadership capabilities.

I’ve been playing Follow the Leader my entire life and I am not tired of it. I enjoy being in charge. Sometimes the responsibilities brought by power cause stress, but the reward of recognition is greater!
