“KAT!” “Wake up, you are going to be late!”
“Ugh I’m coming Mom”
Today was the most important day of Kat’s young life. It would be the day that could decide the rest of her future. Kat is a seventeen-year-old junior in high school, whose entire life revolves around her dance career.
From the time she could walk her only footsteps were those of dancing steps. Dancing has been her life since she could remember and today she was taking steps towards making it her career. Every year around the spring time the American Ballet Association would come to every dance school around her home town of Eustis, Florida looking for young girls her age to be in their academy. If they are chosen from their audition then they go on to become agents there at the academy and can become professional ballet dancers on Broadway.
Knowing that she was running late Kat quickly jumped out of bed, ran to her closet found her cleanest leotard and tights. She threw up her golden blonde hair in a quick tight bun and ran downstairs to meet her mom, patiently waiting for her with toast and orange juice.
Her mom was her biggest fan and number one believer. Not only did she take her to every audition, and every recital but also was the typical stage mom who made sure every sequin was always in place. But she lacked many things to Kat who could only see her as the person who pushed her too far. For as long as Kat could remember, her mother was the guiding force behind all of her decisions. Today she knew she had to make this audition so her mother would be happy. But how happy was Kat? The only one who could answer that question was Kat herself.
For the longest time the only thing Kat knew were the feel of ballet shoes around her feet, and the smell of the wood from the dance floor. But today Kat was determined to trade in her point shoes for some cleats and some shin guards. This would only cause drama between her mom and her so she knew by skipping this audition and going for soccer tryouts would be devastating.
Around the same time as the audition there was also tryouts for the recreation soccer team in her town and this time she wasn’t going to miss it. Kat’s “first love” was dance but the feel for soccer was in her and she knew that she had to be at these tryouts.
It was now eleven o’clock and prime time for the audition. Her mom drove and patiently waited outside for the news from her daughter. But little did she know, that Kat had a plan of her own. It was perfect all she had to do was walk into the audition room and then find the emergency exit door and pretend to feel as though a bit nervous. She would then take a step outside to take a breather but then quickly put on some cleats and run a mile down the road to where the soccer field was.
“Perfect I’m free!” Kat then quickly ran down the road, to find girls all practicing down on the field. As she walked closer towards the field she felt the butterflies rising in her stomach. Embarking on something new has always been a terrifying thing for young Kat but she knew this was something “she wanted” and no one could stop her.
Except for the tiny fact that her mother was close on her trail. Somehow Kat’s mom snuck into the audition to get a quick peak at her star daughter. When she realized she wasn’t there panic struck and now every police that could be dispatched, in their small town, were on her trail.
“Katrina Anderson!” Boomed over the load megaphone. They had found her. There stood about five police cars and her mother who was in tears.
“Kat, what are you doing?”…
