Give yourself a few hours to complete each day's assignments. Do not wait until the last minute. You never know when things will go awry with your computer, the course website (highly unlikely), your internet connection, etc. Since you know about the assignments well in advance of the dates and times that they are due, I will not accept computer/Internet-related excuses for not having your work done. This is clearly stated in the course policies which you will read very soon.

- Course introduction during class.
- After class: an email account is required for this course. You are not required to use an FSU email account; you should use one that you will check regularly. If you do not have an email account already, immediately following class today, sign up for an FSU email account using the Computer Account Registration System (CARS). You must do so immediately as it may take up to 24 hours to activate your account. If you have lost your FSU email id and password, you will need to contact ACNS immediately following class about getting a new one. If you will be using an email account other than FSU's, realize that you can set your FSU email to forward to your account under Account Maintenance in CARS.

By 9pm tonight:
- Review the instructions on Email Netiquette. You will be expected to follow these guidelines when emailing for this class. Then, email the instructor (cel4145 at fsu dot edu) with a short introduction of at least 100 words, giving details about your previous experience with writing. Think of something that the instructor should know about you as a writer. Use the email account you plan on checking regularly for this course.
- If you have not done so yet, create an account for this course website. During registration, you should supply the email address you intend to use this semester for all correspondence. Note that you do not have to use your real name for your username; you might elect to use an AOL screen name, your email account username, or another handle you would like to be identified with online. When registering, you should add details to the city and state fields and either the interests or biography fields (the others are optional). If you have any problems, email the instructor.
Thursday, August 28
Homework due by class time:- Review carefully the Course Policies and take a brief look at the rest of the Course Calendar (note that there are links to both of these texts in the header above). If you have any concerns or questions, be sure to bring them to class.
- Review Blogging to the Course Website. As you create your first out-of-class blog posting assignment with the reading assignment below, write down any questions you might have about how to blog and bring them to class.
- Read Ede Chapter 1 (3-20). Post a 300 word minimum weblog in response to the following prompt: Think about what Ede is saying about writing. What can you bring away from this reading to help you as a writer. Focus most of your attention on why (in other words, do not write a 300 word summary). Bring a printed copy of your response to turn into the teacher. Include your name, the instructor's name, the course number, and date in the heading according to MLA format (see MLA Style Crib Sheet or your Longman text for an example).
Friday, August 29
- Reminder: By this afternoon, you should have completed at least two writing journal blog posts. Note that this will be the only reminder. From now on, it is up to you to remember to complete your weekly journal postings.
