The world is at a fast pace, changing speed and in order to keep up with it you must learn the generation of technology. Growing Up Digital is important because it does bring into a good perspective the meaning of our generation and the technological advances we have had the opportunity to experience.
My mother is one the worst people I have every seen with a computer. She has to ask my brother every step of the way and she can’t seem to sign in less than five minutes. The funny thing is, she thinks that we are some genius children because we know to copy and paste. My step dad goes out of town to Japan for a month every year and she types so slow, that I get so fed up and end up typing the email while she sits there and tells me what to say.
The technology, not only for this generation, but also for the whole world is different. My brother in law is from South Africa and his family can’t believe that we can go through the drive thru at the cleaners of even the bank. This might not be the technology that Seely is relating in his article, but that is how far ahead in everything not just in the World Wide Web. When I was first exposed to computers I had no clue that it would be taken so far.
The first day of many of my classes at FSU, I was in awe of how many professors had computer-assisted classes. Computers and the Web are almost a necessity in this day in age and he generations behind us will not be as caught up. My grandparents have no desire for a computer, but as strange as that seems they feel that they are too far behind to even begin to pick up the pieces. As far as the technology of today’s world goes generations behind have the world at the tip of their fingers.
