A different type of procrastinating
Written by papa smurf on December 4, 2003 - 14:00
Studying for finals reminds me of my Mother trying to get me to go to bed a 8 o'clock when I was 7. I would do anything and everything to procrastinate this deadline. From fake injuries, to pretending to be really into the football game my Dad was watching, or my favorite -- acting like a straved Somalian child who hasn't eaten in weeks, forcing my mom to fix me something.

Saturday Morning. No Breakfast. Not five years ago, Nicole had a tradition of making a southern style meal every Saturday before work. The absence of her cooking means Leonard Hillsdunn came stubbing in late from his nightly endeavors at the bars.
Turkey Day
Written by papa smurf on December 2, 2003 - 14:00
Was nice for a change to just have nothing to do all week. I went home and ate. Then sat around watching football. Then ate some more. A wonderful repetitous pattern. I think they should have these kind of holidays more frequently. Christmas is different than Turkeyday. There is more obligation and more stress. For my family that's when everyone comes to town.

The last moments of a Confederate soldier

A buddy of mine is involved in Civil War reinactments, and this weekend I went with him to see what it was all about. An amazing experience. Most everything very authentic. Here is a small account:
Trouble sleeping
Written by papa smurf on November 20, 2003 - 14:16
Usually I sleep like a baby. It doesn't matter if there's noise or lights on -- I can just sleep like a log... usually. The past couple weeks I find myself tossing and turning 2 hours before I can fall asleep. I was in bewilderment on what it could be, but just tried to ignore it.

My Ninty Minute Registration

So, last night I sit and plan out what classes I should take, the time frame, the professor, whathaveyou. I woke up at 8am (my first class today isn't until 3:30pm) and jumped online for a quick registration and back to bed.

Although first person may relate with the reader in ways that third person does not, I feel that losing the narration voice also loses a big dimention to the story. What a tool it is to be able to step out of the story and say things about a character that a character wouldn't necessarly say about himself.

Snow Day

What a relief, no class today. It reminds me in Michigan with the snow days. They are so much better than planned days off because of the element of surprise. I used to wake up an hour early to check the radio listings, just so I could know for sure I could sleep all day.

First off, I had Italics as a key part of the style. With the main character's thoughts in that form. On the blogs is there a way to make them show?

Secondly, I realize the assignment was 600 words and I nearly doubled it. I just got into this groove and couldn't stop. Depending on the direction you will have us going on this paper -- I could always trim the birthday party scene down. I already have a few issues with the story that are itching at my mind. However, I realize there will be more drafts to fix up things up.

Threat of Justice

As shown in the paper, I can definatly see both sides of the issue pretty clearly. Still my looming mind jumps mid-word saying "what bullshit," yet I did my best to overcome my previous opinions and create a strong paper for the other side.
The Threat of Justice

Murder. The crime of all crimes. Nothing can beat the robbing another individual’s life. Most will align to the same consensus that murdering another human being deserves a fair consequence and one that will prevent the culprit from repeating their heinous act. However, it is the exact ways and means of how society should do so appropriately that arises most controversy.
