Portfolio Draft (final): Makes me Wonder
Written by Better_Ingredients on December 5, 2003 - 19:00
This was my single and solitary motive for adopting the profession. I wondered where I might have been if perhaps governing factors were deviant. This begs the question: was there a steady paycheck to be had in the pursuit of women?

Portfolio Draft: Makes me wonder
Written by Better_Ingredients on December 5, 2003 - 18:44
It’s a productive waste of time wondering how I got here. My life allows for this useless day dreaming. Today most of my day dreaming is concerned with the present. As a kid—as I suppose is not unusual—my thoughts and dreams were fixed firmly on the future. Little kids are just wasting time waiting to grow up and my childhood was no different. I had spent my share of sleepless nights lying in bed wondering where I would be twenty or thirty years down the road. Twenty-four years down the road I no longer wonder, the answer to all my childhood day dreams are realized in this small desk and hard plastic chair.
Process memo: Draft 2: Makes me wonder

This draft really made me think differently about the short story I began with and it forced me to go back and really re-work it. Despite not really making use of the inner monolouge correctly, the prompt still suceeded in introducing a new way of telling the story.
Super Nintendo

Thats right. Dusted off the old SNES over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Theres no cable in my room so I have a brand new TV thats never been turned on til this week. Its getting plenty of use now. I brought back all the old games: NBA Jam, Street fighter 2, Super Mario World, Final Fight, etc. I would take any one of those games over the bullshit they pump out 'nowadays'. During the early 1990s they really cared about the game. They considered things like; game play, story and whatever else goes into the making of a quality game. They made sure you got your moneys worth on every single purchase.
Still Feeling the Affects
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 20, 2003 - 17:29
I lost my wallet a while ago. It was probably the worst day of my life. Surviving without the essential contents of a wallet was really difficult for me. But I'm a fighter and I made it through.
It's been about 2 months, maybe, since that horrible day and I'm still feeling its affects. My extreme laziness in conjunction with my stupidity has prompted me to put off getting a new liscense. I've been borrowing friend's IDs to get into clubs and since I don't drive in Tallahassee there really hasn't been a pressing need. But with the approaching Thanksgiving holiday just around the corner, and me flying home for that week, I suddenly remember... don't I need ID to get onto a plane?

I thought I posted this on Friday along with my essay but the Internet was on the blink as usual and it looks like it didn't happen. So here it is for a second time...

I had a different perception of what I wanted to do with this short story coming into the assignment. But when I started writing it turned out to be less of a short story and more a small chapter of something larger. Really all this essay is, is two guys walking down a hallway talking. Like I said though, coming into the assignment I had a grander plan. Because of how this piece turned out it really doesn't have an ending or even a strong beginning for that matter.
I Can't Wait for Thanksgiving
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 17, 2003 - 14:45
I'm not the biggest fan of turkey so Thanksgiving has never ranked very high with me, but I'm starting the count down a week early this year. Don’t get me wrong, Tallahassee is awesome, and I've had some pretty sweet times since I've been down here. But, while my friends from high school have been home 2 or 3 times already I haven't seen Pennsylvania since I got here. I’m just looking forward to seeing my friends and sleeping in my own bed. I’m looking forward to not having to go through my change jar to buy dinner when the café closes up. I’m looking forward to my parents doing my laundry. All the shit I took for granted in high school is everything I can’t wait to catch back up with.
Makes Me Wonder

This was his single and solitary motive for adopting the profession. When John Nathaniel was younger he had spent inordinate amounts of time pursuing women; perhaps if governing factors had been different he might have been a professional lover. This notion sauntered through his thoughts as he opened the car door, and the rain recoiled off his shoulders and head.
Talkin’ ‘bout my generation

The Internet has opened many neoteric doors to the world. Many things that were once deemed impossible have been realized through it’s help. When the Internet was finally fully adopted by the masses things changed instantly. And with those changes came a division between generations. Between those who have grown up with the Internet and its many advances and those who have not. I’ve read a lot of the other responses to this particular reading assignment and they all really hark on this fact. The world has already been changed at it will continue to expand in rhythm with the Internet’s expansion.
Matrix: what a disappointment
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 6, 2003 - 14:58
I feel sold out. Last night I spent ten bucks (gourmet style pretzels are so good) and two-and-a-half hours wading through Matrix: Revolutions. Upon leaving the theatre it became all too clear that I was robbed and more importantly tricked. The brothers had put together an outstanding fan base through the success of the first two movies, but when it came time to finish the story and provide explanations to their viewer's questions it appeared as though they just didn't care.
Process Memo: (Alcohol) 2nd Draft
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 4, 2003 - 15:31
Procrastination killed me on this draft. I had such great ideas for this prompt and due to time restraints I couldn’t really implement any of them. Rather than simply not handing the paper in I’ll see what kind of credit I can get for handing it in partially completed. I can continue this draft when I get back from class today. I'll finish it up then.
Whats in a Number?, 2nd Draft
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 4, 2003 - 15:27
There are many dangers that threaten the futures of aspiring young adults; foremost among these perils is alcohol abuse. Alcohol found its way into the blood stream of nearly 27% of these young adults while behind the wheel last year, made its presence felt in a number between 75-90% of violent crimes and among high school dropouts 80% of them admitted to “drinking heavily”. Alcohol is also the leading component in student suicides and the conveyance of sexually transmitted diseases.
USC doesn't deserve it
Written by Better_Ingredients on November 4, 2003 - 14:20
Its official, a spot in the national championship is vacant for a single loss team. This realization presents revived hope for teams like Florida State, Georgia, Virginia Tech, LSU, Ohio State, Southern Cal., and (recently added to the list of single loss teams) Miami. While the season winds down and the bowl games approach the question foremost in the minds of these teams are: “why not me?” The BCS has decided that as of week twelve of the 2003 season, Southern Cal. is that team. But do they deserve it more then, say for the sake of argument… Florida State? Of course they don’t. The premise behind USC and their “deserved” #2 ranking is this; their schedule strength has been challenging, they’ve succeeded remarkably thus far generating huge offensive numbers, and they’ve handily defeated Washington State (43-16). Here is my argument against their unjustified ranking; they lost to Cal. (an unranked team). When trying to separate the best competitors from teams with identical records the most important item to consider is their losses. Who was the loss suffered to? How was it lost? How much was the difference? In the case of USC, we already know who beat them. It was California who currently holds a record of 5-5. While the score of this game was close and even extended into overtime the statistics tell a different story. In this game USC was dominated both in the air and on the ground, and struggled in the remaining 16 seconds of the 4th quarter to get off a 33-yard field goal for the tie. While they were only beaten by a field goal the game may as well have been a blowout. USC lost to an inferior team, and though their effort was valiant the simply were outplayed. Florida State on the other hand lost to Miami who at the time looked down at us from a 2nd ranked position. The game was played in conditions most unsuited for FSU’s brand of football, and despite this as the clock died out the score remained within eight points.
